The workplace is constantly changing and safety challenges evolve for companies daily. It is easy to put off addressing safety problems and think we can address them at a later time. OSHA lists “Serious” and “Willful” violations in the workplace and there are differences in the two.

OSHA defines a “Serious” violation as: “one in which there is substantial probability that death or serious physical harm could result, and the employer knew or should have known of the hazard.” A “Willful” violation is one “committed with an intentional OSHAdisregard of or plain indifference to the requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.”  A “Willful” violation can have extreme consequences for the company and any management involved.  Here are the top 5 violations in each category for 2015:

    Recently IPC had a customer that had 23 employees working around a powder in their manufacturing process. All the workers were wearing dust masks. Upon working with them on evaluating the contaminant it was determined that the powder was toxic and respirators had to be implemented. IPC worked with the customer to recommend the proper respirator, get each employee medical approvals, and get each employee fit tested. This got the customer in OSHA compliance.
